CodgerChat

A private messaging system — like WhatsApp, but run on our own server.

🔑 First step: check your email invitation Look for the invite email and click the link to create your password. Please check your Junk or Spam folder if you do not see it.

1. Download the app

Install Element on the device you want to use:

Desktop (Mac/PC) Android iPhone / iPad

2. Sign in

The app normally points to matrix.org, but CodgerChat uses its own secure server.

            Important:

            Change the homeserver to:

            https://chat.codgerchat.org.uk

Open Element and tap Sign In.
Tap Edit or Change beside the homeserver address.
Select Other and enter https://chat.codgerchat.org.uk exactly, with no extra spaces.
Enter your username and the password you created from the email invite.
After signing in, you should see the New Users room, where you can ask questions and get invited to other rooms.

3. Use the web version if needed

No app yet? You can still use CodgerChat in your web browser.

⚠️ Keep your Security Key safe

CodgerChat is end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your messages.

When you first log in, Element will ask you to set up Secure Backup.
You will be given a Security Key made of random words.
Keep it somewhere safe. Without this key, your old messages cannot be recovered on a new device.
